Ploom began in the early 2000s as a San Francisco startup founded by James Monsees and Adam Bowen, originally developed as part of their Stanford thesis project. Their idea was to create an e-cigarette that delivered the flavour and nicotine of tobacco without the smoke or combustion. This led to the launch of the Ploom Model One Vaporizer in 2010. Japan Tobacco International JTI later acquired the rights. Today, devices such as the Ploom X use advanced HeatFlow™ technology to heat tobacco sticks without burning, providing a modern, refined alternative to traditional smoking. With its focus on design, innovation and usability, Ploom now stands as a stylish and innovative name in the heated tobacco category.
